Remove The Mask–The Art of Networking Face to Face with Kristina on Casey Radio- 97.7 FM
A little before Christmas I attended a “Secret Women’s Masquerade night” which gave me a much-needed push to remove the mask I had been hiding behind these past few years with my creative writing– and really begin to step into the woman I know I am capable of being.
Attending as an outsider and taking off the mask
The “Secret Women’s Night” was a great opportunity to get out of the house, have fun, and meet some like-minded women, however the older I get, the more introverted I find myself, which means meeting new people and networking can be really challenging.
Knowing I have made a commitment to live a real-life journey for The Prosperity Project, means this is something I need to conquer if I am to live the truth of what we teach.
The Prosperity Project has modules involving networking (build a community) and of course the final changemaker card (understanding the butterfly effect) which need to be successfully transitioned in addition to the other 34 cards for the journey to be completed.
So what’s a girl to do at a time like this?
I asked my bestie to come along and keep me company for which she happily obliged and together we set off to the Rendezvous in Melbourne for an amazing night WITH amazing women and just the most wonderful experience I can’t rate highly enough.
When my gf and I arrived at The Rendezvous we were like two fish out of water.
We knew no-one at all.
Had no idea what to do.
Whether we should eat.
Stand by ourselves.
Or talk to others…. (yes..neither of us get out much and our social skills need a little polishing!!)
Luckily for us it didnt take long until we struck up a few conversations, and not long after that we met Kristina the Networking Diva who kept the conversation flowing until it was time to be seated.
Leaving but staying in contact
Due to parking restrictions my gf and I had to cut the night short, but before I left I made a few connections with some of the girls I met and promised myself no matter how awkward I felt about being the stranger, that I would still reach out and say hello after the night, and in doing so Kristina told me about her Monday morning radio show and I took the opportunity to stretch myself a little further and decided to take her up on the opportunity for a guest spot and finally remove the mask I had been wearing these last few years with my creative writing and allow the world to see the real and authentic me.
Casey Radio Station today
I ended up recording 2 interviews with Kristina for her spot on Casey Radio.
One which aired today that you can listen to by clicking play below,
and another about my story….my family background–how and where I grew up and why I am passionate about what I do (which airs at another time ) and I will share when appropriate.
Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and don’t be afraid of networking
For the longest time in my professional life until meeting Kristina, I have really struggled with networking….you’ll notice on the recording for the radio…I speak waaaaayyyy too fast when I am passionate or excited about something….which can come off as a little odd lol!!
But….the more times I speak to Kristina, the more relaxed I become and the more I understand what she says about how many people feel awkward and uncomfortable when networking or being in the spotlight too.
Kristina also taught me that networking isn’twhat i thought it was (selling yourself and having others sell themselves to you) but instead it is listening to people and understanding I need to look at it as if I am curious about people and care about what they are up to…..help them…see how they are going…what they are up to and just be genuinely curious to help or serve or lend a shoulder…and that for me was such a dynamic and yet simple shift, which has allowed my networking abilities in the last few weeks to flourish.
If you are a little introverted or maybe struggling with understanding networking, then I highly recommend getting in contact with Kristina.
In closing I want to thank Kristina for inviting me on the show….. Thank you to Josie Kearsey for holding such a wonderful event at The Rendezvous (be sure to check out her lineup for the women’s conference in February)…
and of course thank you to be bestie who has supported me with various networking events in 2019 (and I’m sure there will be more in 2020!!) as I stretch my wings and grow.
